STA CORE: Community, Opportunity, and Respect for Everyone

Mission Statement: We believe that the foundation of education is ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn in a safe and supportive environment. Our work is not about politics or personal beliefs—it is about providing the best education possible to all students in our classrooms. We are committed to ensuring that every child and member, no matter their background, feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

What is STACORE?

STACORE stands for the Snowline Teachers Association committee on CORE: Community, Opportunity, Respect for Everyone. We are a teacher-led committee within the union, focused on building a stronger, safer, and more supportive work environment for all educators and students in our district. Our guiding belief is simple: when teachers are respected, protected, and supported, students benefit too.

This is not about politics. STACORE is grounded in our shared professional responsibility to uphold the principles of Community, Opportunity, and Respect for Everyone.

FAQs

What kinds of issues does STACORE address?

We focus on issues that affect the daily experience of teachers and their ability to do their job well. This includes:

  • Ensuring safe, inclusive, and respectful workplaces for teachers

  • Addressing harassment or bias against staff

  • Sharing tools for culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and community-building instruction

  • Advocating for equitable distribution of resources to support all classrooms

  • Making sure teacher voices are part of district and site-level decisions about equity and inclusion

Is this political?

No. STACORE is not a political group. We do not promote any particular political agenda. Our focus is on professional rights and well-being for educators, and the conditions needed to provide a great education for every student. That includes standing against discrimination and ensuring that teachers and students of all backgrounds feel safe and valued.

How does this benefit teachers?

Everything STACORE does is grounded in supporting educators. Our work helps:

  • Create safer, more respectful school environments

  • Every teacher deserves a workplace that is free from hostility, harassment, or bias and where their well-being is a priority.

  • Prevent and address discrimination against educators.

  • Teachers must be protected from mistreatment based on race, language, gender identity, religion, sexuality, cultural background, or any personal characteristic.

  • Build access to meaningful, non-political professional learning opportunities.

  • We support relevant training that helps teachers grow in areas like trauma-informed practice, culturally responsive instruction, and classroom community-building—without pushing any ideology.

  • Ensure teacher voices are included in equity and policy conversations.

  • Teachers should have a real say in the decisions that affect their work, school culture, and student outcomes.

  • Support educator wellness, emotional safety, and sense of belonging.

  • We advocate for conditions that help reduce burnout, promote staff mental health, and build unity among colleagues within our union.

  • Strengthen relationships between educators, families, and communities.

  • Collaboration builds trust and improves outcomes. Teachers thrive when strong, respectful partnerships are in place between home and school.

How does this benefit students?

When teachers feel safe, supported, and valued, they are better equipped to teach effectively, build positive relationships, and meet the diverse needs of their students. STACORE’s efforts such as promoting respectful work environments, advocating for inclusive teaching strategies, and improving access to professional development help create school climates where both educators and students can thrive.

By addressing social justice and equity issues, we help ensure that students are learning from educators who feel empowered, prepared, and protected. This work leads to more consistent teaching, stronger classroom communities, and better academic and social-emotional outcomes for all learners.

Who can participate?

Any Snowline Teachers Association member can participate in STACORE. You don’t need any special background. Just a belief in fairness, and a willingness to listen and learn. We welcome new perspectives, especially from educators who are unsure about this work or have questions.

What if I have different beliefs?

We respect that not all teachers see things the same way. You do not have to share the same politics to support fairness and professional respect. STACORE is committed to creating space where differences are acknowledged and where everyone can work toward the shared goal of a strong, inclusive teaching environment.

How is STACORE connected to the California Teachers Association?

STACORE is modeled after and supported by CTA’s statewide focus on racial and social justice, equity, and educator rights. CTA encourages each local chapter to form equity teams like ours. We receive guidance, resources, and professional development opportunities through CTA’s Human Rights Department, Equity Team networks, and regional leadership.

How can I get involved or learn more?
